Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo
Marunouchi Trust Tower Main, 1-8-3 Marunouchi Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, 100-8283, Japan
What stands out for me the most about this hotel is the people working there. I am astounded at the level of service and of being made to feel welcome. It is the Japanese hospitality, they are so polite and refined and the team at the Shangri-La, Tokyo do an amazing job at showing this. A couple of times I am sure I looked surprised at their attention to detail when it came to welcoming us!
The hotel is a 30 second walk from the station, which means very easy access if you arrive by train from the airport and to make it even more convenient, you can arrange for someone from the hotel to meet you on the platform. The hotel is very close to Ginza shopping district and is also surrounded by hundreds of shopping and dining options.
This Shangri-La opened around eight years ago. It has very large rooms and suites (some of the largest in Tokyo). The rooms are quiet and there was no sound transmission for me over the three nights I was there. The premier rooms are my favourite with a fabulous dual aspect.
The Horizon Club lounge is great with the inclusions. I tried breakfast in the lounge as well as the larger restaurant downstairs near the reception area. In both you order most hot options from an extensive breakfast menu, and there is a buffet offering too. It was lovely (if not a little dangerous) to start our day with eggs, lobster, caviar and some hollandaise… I like the hotel a lot and can’t fault it, other than the small gym and despite my personal preference for more modern hotels.
The reception is on level 28 and the rooms are on all levels above up to the 37th floor so you can be sure you will have a fantastic view! There are also two restaurants, a bar, spa, a small gym open 24 hours and a great 20 metre indoor pool with wonderful view on this floor.
Deluxe rooms – 50sqm – one of the largest in Tokyo. All rooms have great views. Great size bathrooms with walk in rain shower. L’Occitane toiletries. All rooms have the vital espresso machine and gorgeous selection of tea.
Premier rooms – in my opinion the nicest of the rooms, premier rooms are on the corners of the building so have dual aspect. They are huge rooms around 68sqm.
The Horizon Club lounge is on the top two floors of the hotel. The lounge is open from 7am to 10pm and guests take advantage of private check in or check out in the lounge and late check out to 4pm as well as daily breakfast; drinks served all day, evening cocktails and canapés; pressing and shoe shining, to name a few benefits. All Horizon club rooms are non smoking except suites. And your toiletries are upgraded to Bvlgari in the Horizon club rooms too!
